White heels clicked against the sidewalk of Port Angeles at a brisk pace. Long, white blond waves cascaded down her back as her ice blue eyes kept forward, her face nearly blank with a hint of untold expression. Laural made her way down the crowded streets wearing only a jean mini skirt, strapless white top, and a black pure hanging from her shoulder. Her skin was slightly cold, her senses where higher then the average humans, and she could go a whole lot faster.
Why Laural came to this tourist filled city was unclear to her at first, but then when she got there she realized that she not only needed to go on a good shopping trip, but she also wanted decent food even if it did cost twice as much. This desire for food caused the girl to go toward a restaurant called Bonefish Grille. She'd never tried it but she heard good things about it. Laural figured now was a good time to try new things. She was sick of the same routine over and over again. On this cloudy day she walked to her desired restaurant. Knowing a short cut Laural turned down a short ally way and started making her way to the other side of the buildings.

"Its Like Sticking an Iron Board Down Her Throat"Karl Martin Most of the time, Karl was in complete control. He ate often (mostly because he enjoyed the sport of the hunting), so it was easy to be in control. Not to mention he was three hundred and thirty-three years of age as of last month. So, you could understand how much he was in control. It was only a problem when he was extremely close, and even then, it had to be a condition where he hadn't hunt, in what, a month?
But today was a different matter. He hadn't hunted in so long, he had to hold his breath for every human being that walked past him. He was actually out at the moment to see if he could get a victum close by. Most of the time, he hunted outside of the state, but he needed help, and now.
The reasons he hadn't eaten in so long was the fact that today was the first cloudy day Port Angeles had seen in a long time. Karl wouldn't dare try to hunt within his town. If he did, he had to be someplace very secret, and no one could know they were together. There was no way he could succeed anyways. The town of Foxford, everyone knew everyone. There were no secrets. If someone saw them together, he would be the first to question.
He wasn't paying attention to where he was going, busy trying to ignore the hurt in his throat. Out of no where, a blonde woman came out of the alley, and Karl missed bumping into her by what seemed like inches. He stepped back, falling over, trying his best to stay in control. Yes, he fell down. Most vampires were graceful and such, which he was, except that he was ordinary when he was surprised. It was a surprise to him that it was so much easier to gain control then normal, but it still hurt his throat. He listened for the heart beat to disappear, only to find her heartbeat was so different. At the rate it was going, she should be dead.
He looked up at her with his red eyes in question. What the hell are you? They seemed to be saying to her. Tensing for the impact, he took a deep breath in. There was an odd mix of vampire AND human in her. Karl had heard of hybrids before, but only found them to be myth. So was she... He looked at her with the same expression across his face.

Her mind was off, she was in her own world and it was quite obvious when she almost crashed into another person. She not only saw, but clearly hear him fall. "Oh, sorry!" She said looking down. At first glance Laural thought she was going to have to take her hand and close her mouth, but she refrained from even allowing her jaw to drop at all. In her mind this guy must have been the most gorgeous person on earth.
Beside the things that Laural first noticed, she noticed his bright red eyes next. It was times like now when she was thankful for her father's half, the vampire in her. Not that it meant that this guy couldn't kill her if he wanted to, it just gave her a little more of a chance. With one hand Laural repositioned her bag on her shoulder and the other was extended toward the guy on the ground. "Here" She said, hand offered to help him up.

"Its Like Sticking an Iron Board Down Her Throat"Karl Martin He realized a little too late that he was staring at this... well, thing with his red eyes. He wasn't sure if she knew of vampires, but it probably wouldn't be the best idea to expose himself. If word ever got out, he would for sure be killed by the Volturi, who were still around after all these years. They have been around as long as Karl had, maybe even longer, which was really quite a shocker.
He saw that she had to be a pretty nice person...or erm... thing to say 'I'm sorry' like that when it was clearly Karl that fell over at his own fault for not paying attention, which was so rare for him, since vampires were usually always on their toes. And why he didn't scent her coming down the alley was a mystery too. He still wasn't sure why she had this weird mixing of smell about her, but he didn't want to randomly ask.
He shook his head, looking at her offering hand like it was a piece of posion. He sprang up from his spot faster then what any human would do. Silently, he hoped she didn't notice that. After a little bit of standing there, trying to figure out what she was, he realized that he was so frustrated, he forgot his manners.
Ever since he was little, in the Revolutionary War times, he had been taught to be poliet to a lady. It was the right thing to do, and that was what he did since he could learn to walk and talk. He was actually respectable to all, no matter how many sluts he decided to have fun with. He was still polite to them in the end. Forcing a small smile and trying with all his might to the fact that he was itching to leap at her, he said, "No, I'm sorry. It was my fault I fell over. Very clumsy of me." He said, trying to sound like himself.
"I'm Karl." He greeted. He knew it would have been better to outstretch a hand, or something, but he was afraid he might loose it.

When the offer of her hand was obviously declined she just set it back at her side. When he spoke his name Laural didn't take her pale blue eyes off of him. She nodded after he spoke and she quickly remembered then that she should say her name to because that was the common thing to do? Yea, we will go with that. "I'm Laural." She said with a smile and- without realizing it- a step backward.
One part of her mind to her to talk but the other part argued with 'what do you say'. She figured both sides had a good point. She couldn't just stand there like an idiot for much longer, that would be rude. But there was something about this guy that reminded her of younger days. You couldn't really call it a childhood because she was only considered a child for a year or so, and she was a teenager for just a short time after. At least she stopped at eighteen. That was something to be thankful for.
Laurel bit her lip and looked down at her shoes for a moment. She didn't know whether to just walk away, invite him to dinner, do something. She yelled at herself internally for a moment and soon she just spoke without thinking, and it was probably the wrong thing to say too. "So what are you doing here anyways?" Her tone was normal and after she spoke she looked up and shook her head. "Wait. Never mind. You don't have to answer that. I shouldn't ask stupid things." She paused and was about to just walk away,, but no. She couldn't keep her mouth shut long enough. "Do you want to come to dinner with me?" She asked to be polite.

"Its Like Sticking an Iron Board Down Her Throat"Karl Martin He never heard the name before, so this was good. He hated when he already met someone, but when he saw them again, he didn't reconize him. This has happened before, as he had met all kinds of people. In fact, there was one time he met someone at a young child and then tons of years later saw her dealth in the paper. It was out of old age of course, but it just showed how long a human lasted.
Then again, he was convinced that Laural was human. Yes, she had a human tint to her scent, but that wasn't the overall picture she found. It was still confusing him to the maxium, and he was so close to just spitting out the question. Nothing made sense and everything was upside down with her.
He blinked in surprise at her sudden question. Did she know what he was? No, that couldn't be possible. Then again, he wasn't wearing his contacts. Still, if a human knew about them, then the Volturi wouldn't make that last very long. Karl wasnt' really looking forward to a visit from them. Of course, she wasn't completely human, so maybe it was okay. "I don't live too far from here you know." He said with a shrugg, as if that was the question she asked. He knew what she meant, but he didn't want her to know that.
A soft laugh came rumbling through his throat when she mentioned dinner. He was hungry, but not for human food. It was all so tempting to go to dinner with her, maybe get his dinner at the end, but he wasn't sure if he could wait until then. It wasn't something he could avoid, and his eyes were getting as black as coal. "Uh, sure. Can I meet you there, because I have something I have to do before hand." He told her. It was all planned in his head now.
He was going to go and 'grab a bite to eat' real quick, then meet her for dinner. He was trying so hard to figure out what she was.

She couldn't pin it, but something about this guy made Laural think back to her very short time with her father. It was odd really and she finally made up her mind. Vampire? She quickly went through the list that she knew by heart, the list of distinct characteristics that would tell her something like this. Pale skin, for sure. Red eyes, well some people got contacts to have red eyes thinking it was cool. She didn't know if he could go really fast or if his skin was cold. Her mind was made up though. She wasn't going to ask what he was. That was rude and outright weird.
"Uh, sure. Can I meet you there, because I have something I have to do before hand."
Laural nodded not really listing to Karl- that was his name right?- she was far to busy internally arguing with herself yet again. She did that more than necessary. Laural turned but quickly turned back on her heels. "Oh, meet me at that italian place around the corner I guess. Bella Italiano or something like that I think." Before turning and walking again she could keep her mouth shut. "Really though, you don't have to come. I just have a hard time shutting up." There Laur caught herself. "Jeez, I ramble. Sorry. Bye!"
She turned and started walking back the way she entered the ally way. Good job. Now he thinks you have mental problems. Great. She kept yelling at herself in her head as she walked. Her heels clicked the ground until finally she was at the steps to the restaurant. There was an older woman standing at the desk and Laural was seated quickly. She ordered a water and after it was set in front of her she started texting one of her friends trying to make plans for later tonight. A back up if you will in case she totally scared off the guy from earlier.

"Its Like Sticking an Iron Board Down Her Throat"Karl Martin There was a small smile that lit on his face when she saw how much she rambled. It was actually rather amusing, seeing humans, or whatever she was, ramble like that. Though, as soon as she was out of site, he ran to get what he came here for. Now that he thought of it, he wasn't sure what he was going to eat. It would have a horrible taste, but perhaps he could choke it down.
He took a big whiff of the air, regretting it at once. His eyes followed to a pitch black, and he looked around. There was a single person in the alley way. Though it smelled good, there was a scent of something else. A druggie He thought. Personally, he didn't like druggies, but it was all he could find alone right now. He turned the corner, coming straight toward him.
The guy looked alarmed that he was coming straight at him, but started cussing at him. He had a gun and was waving it around like it was a toy. Rolling his eyes, he leaped at him. The guy gave a yelp of surprise, but prepared the gun. Karl was faster, and swung the gun away. He went at his, covering his mouth and hearing the 'should be' horrible muffling screams. After a while, it started to die down and finally stop.
With a sastified look, Karl wiped his mouth with his hand, smirking as he left the body there, thinking it was an animal or some sort of gang fight. Not wanting to waste any time now, he raced to the resturant, being invisible as he went. He appeared in front of it, not startling anyone, walking in. He told the old lady in the front that he was already here. He felt so much better. The burning in his throat was fine, and his red eyes more red then before now that he ate something. "Hey, sorry it took a while." he said with a grin.

Her fingers moved faster then the should've over the keyboard on her phone but she failed to notice. Her speed was faster then the average humans, but it wasn't anything compared to how fast she be without the human part in her. That human part of her seemed to get on her nerves though. She'd rather be either just human or just... well, a vampire. It really would make life so much easier if she wasn't stuck in the middle for the remainder of her lifetime.
Her hand moved quickly and slid the phone shut quickly. She dropped it into her bag and when she looked up she heard a voice.
"Hey, sorry it took a while."
He said simply. It took Laur a second to register who was speaking to her, she just couldn't remember his name. Was it Cal, Collin, or were her thoughts on the wrong first letter? Maybe it was Jerry for all she knew. No, she concluded Cal was closest and then it clicked. Karl- that was it, right?
"No, no. It's fine, honestly I didn't think you'd show with all my rambling before." Her voice was quiet, not normally like her to be quiet, but whatever worked, right? She bit her lip out of habit now, stopping herself from asking that one question that she thought about on her way here. That question would be phrased as something along the lines of 'so are you a vampire?'. Yea, she was working on how to word that subtly as she waited for the right-ish time to ask a ridiculous question like that.

"Its Like Sticking an Iron Board Down Her Throat"Karl Martin He made a sideways smile at this. He wasn't quite sure what a guy would do now a days. They seemed to be so rude to women over the years. Maybe it was just him being born in a world where they were respected, maybe not as in power as they are now, but defitnally respected. They wern't treated like they were now.
"I grew up keeping to my word, and not to abandon any women, no matter how much they ramble." He said with a slight tease in his voice. He was still tempted to ask what she was, but maybe she didn't know herself. She probably did, but there was the little possiblity she might not.
OOC: ugh, sorry for the sucky post!

"I grew up keeping to my word, and not to abandon any women, no matter how much they ramble."
Laural didn't argue with that. She just smiled and shook her head a little. It was him who had to listen, she wouldn't have blamed him if he did show up. She wouldn't have showed up for herself, and that was the truth. Laur was an obvious talker. It was who she was. "Whatever you say." She said as her crystal blue eyes dropped to her menu that was laying flat in front of her.
When she figured out what she wanted, Laural looked up at Karl. He was interesting and the one thing she wanted to ask him burned a hole in the back of her mind until she finally just spoke. "There's something I want to ask you, but here really isn't the place." She paused thinking to herself why she just said that. "Sorry, I talk without thinking... I'll shut up now." She said as the waiter approached the table.
When she was asked what she wanted to eat Laur respond by ordering the smallest size of baked ziti they had (knowing a small serving here was equal to a medium at most other restaurants. The waited turned her head to Karl asking him if he wanted anything. Now was when Laural noticed the girl's bright, kind of orange hair. She noticed the thick eyeliner and eye shadow that matched her hair along with bright red lipstick and way to much blush. This made Laural want to laugh at the girls looks. It was disgusting to her really. She fought back the smile as she notice all of these things. Great, now she was low enough to make fun of other in her mind...

"Its Like Sticking an Iron Board Down Her Throat"Karl Martin A deep laugh rumbled in his throat as she said whatever he said. If only she really knew the truth. Speaking of the truth, his smile went into a straight line. Though, his eyebrow cocked upward in a questioning manner. He was about to ask her what she suspected, but the waiter came and asked for his order.
Well, if he was going to tell her, which it did look like that. He gave one of those white smiles at the waiter, saying polietly, "Oh, I'm not having anything." He turned back to Laura, or that's what he remembered her name was, as so many names were passed on him so often. "There aren't a lot of people here, you can ask." He said.
Though, he wasn't sure weither to tell her or not. On one hand, she might explain what she was, but if she was human, he was breaking the rules. The rules delt with the Volturi, and there was somewhere he made sure never to go for.

Laural didn't really listen to what Karl was saying. She was so busy looking at that girl's hair that she got distracted. Did she really think that the color of orange she used was pretty? Or if she didn't did she know that there was a little thing called hair dye? It had to be on or the other. No one would really want to look like that.
"There aren't a lot of people here, you can ask."
The words made Laural snap her attention back to the conversation. She figured her hadn't ordered anything because she hadn't caught the waitress write anything down. She was sure of what she was going to say now, that she had the right answer. She liked how he seemed calm about everything, it made Laural feel a little more relaxed now.
Before she answered she had her doubts. She didn't want to make him mad but she really had no choice now did she. "Okay then." She started softly now. Her words weren't rushed and they were barely a whisper. Her eyes dropped down because she didn't want to see his reaction to the question. She didn't care if he reacted good or badly, she knew she'd be, not offended but shocked if someone figured her out that fast. "You're a vampire, aren't you." It was more of a statement rather then a question. She she looked up, not sure of what to say next. So for once she stayed quiet.

"Its Like Sticking an Iron Board Down Her Throat"Karl Martin Well, his theory about her knowing was correct, but he still found himself a little bit suprirsed. It was actually rather frustrating to feel suprirse or shock. He wasn't sure weither to laugh and say no so he could save his skin or not. Humans were no suppose to know about vampires, or they would get in huge trouble with the Volturi, which isn't all that good.
Still, he wasn't sure if she was human herself, so would it really matter? She obviously did already know about them because she couldn't have figured it out so quickly. Unless maybe he had some blood still on his lips, but that was rather doubtful, as Karl was very clean to himself. In this little moment they knew each other, she seemed to know what he was, so she had to already know about them.
"I am." He said in a very causal tone, making sure that he didn't attract attention to anyone around them by his words I am He formed his mouth into crooked shape as he said what he said next, "Pardon me if this question is a little bit... erupt, but..." He paused as if trying to find a better way to put it, "What are you?"

The two words that clarified everything made Laural feel a little less odd about things now. She didn't feel like she needed to shut up- and that feeling came with rambling- so there was no stupid comments or anything really from her mouth. There was no need to cover the very brief silence.
"Pardon me if this question is a little bit... erupt, but..." He paused as if trying to find a better way to put it, "What are you?"
His question was expected but Laural found it funny when he paused to think of how to word the short sentence. She smiled about to answer when the waitress came with her small plate of food. She set it in front of the blonde girl and Laural nodded with a slight smile and then rolled her eyes as she unwrapped her silverware. "I'm a..." She couldn't think of what to call it because she didn't know if there was a proper term. "I don't know what you'd call it but both. I guess like a hybrid in a way." She shrugged as she speared a piece of pasta.

"Its Like Sticking an Iron Board Down Her Throat"Karl Martin It looked like she had this urge to speak, and Karl really couldn't blaim her. It seemed she already knew about the vampires, but maybe it was just a theory, and he proved it right. That would suck. A visit from the Volturi was not something he had in mind. Which was a shame, because he was starting to really like this town, and now he was probably not going to see it again.
But as she started speaking, answering his previous question, he felt better. Ah, a hybrid. Something inside him told him he was already for that answer, but her words completed it. Wait, a hybrid? He didn't know the vampires could have children with females. Well, now he was going to have to be a little more careful from now on...
"Half and half." He said outloud. "Well that explains a lot." Not quite sure what to say, as there didn't seem like anything else left to say, he bit his bottom lip. Was this actually legal? He wasn't sure.
